I love dazai because the manga portrays him in the best way, stormbringer makes him look cool, the day i picked up dazai is absolute cinema and i would say asagiri did the actual dazai justice but lmfao he's probably rolling in his grave rn, he's still an obviously well known and praised name but he's probably not happy about also being some twink. Speaking of that he's obviously meant to be (objectively) attractive and i am not going to gloss over that fact 🤤🤤 10/10 character design and 10/10 everything else as ALL of us agreed back in 2023 and yes i do mean all of us check the votes hes also top 10 in the AO3 tags like of all time go check right now i swear



Anyways i think dazai is pretty cool as a character (heavily understating how i actually feel) I think his existence actually makes me feel seen not only as someone whos been struggling with MDD since i was 12 i guess i kind of hid how i felt really well and pretended to be ok around my friends and family so i wouldnt burden them. The difference is i actually really like how his friends/colleges, hell even enemy (chuuya) still sees dazai as a person, they still see him as someone (somewhat) worth valuing when hes openly suicidal and they dont see him as any less of a person which is why i think hes so comfortable joking and talking around them about it (he is veryyy very lucky) unlike how everyone is quick to send you to isolate you from everyone else and see you as crazy and you'll make people uncomfortable in real life because omg how could u say that and treat u like ur not even a person



Now im not going to excuse any of his actions in the past (which is why i linked inconsistently heinous wiki), he's still on his journey to being a better person. But his backstory is so interesting and unfortunately uhh the best thing about him? The anime doesn't show it but dazai literally is just so unlucky, so unfortunate that the only thing that intrests him is genuinely death because not only was he surrounded by it all the time he literally couldnt understand what it was like to be alive so he wanted to know more about death. He clearly has guilt, he clearly has empathy its just for so long he had to live like he didn't because he was stuck surviving. He liked oda so much because he actually understood and took care of him as a CHILD not as an executive, considering oda has a genuine love for children (not in the weird way). Holy peak. And dazai couldnt even handle it at first because nobody genuinely has treated him normally. And oda dying obviously didnt help his suicidal ideations which is why he's still like that now, my point is his past is so good SO so good and bones only cared about skk banter (not saying its not peak) and not the lupzin trio.
